The Chirripó National Park is the highest peak in Costa Rica and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The park is home to the Lakes of Chirripó, a series of glacial lakes that are a must-see for any visitor to the area.
The park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is between December and April, when the weather is dry and sunny. The park is open from 7 am to 4 pm, and admission is $15 per person.
To visit the Lakes of Chirripó, you'll need to hike the Cerro Chirripó Trail, which is a challenging 19-kilometer round-trip hike that takes approximately 10-12 hours to complete. The trail is open from 5 am to 10 am, and hikers must register at the park entrance before starting the hike.
In addition to the Lakes of Chirripó, there are several other attractions in the area worth checking out. The town of San Gerardo de Rivas is a popular starting point for hikes in the park and offers a range of accommodations and dining options. The nearby Los Cusingos Bird Sanctuary is a must-visit for birdwatchers, and the town of San Isidro de El General is a hub for shopping and cultural events.
